:: HINTS
To all young guitar players I would reccomend exercises with metronome. It's neither easy nor interesting but can give pretty satisfying results in a short time. It's just about leaving the already prepared Mettalica patents, and starting to play preciesly those simple exercises. Not a long time later we will notice that "Seek and destroy" sounds much better.
Your first gutiar should be the best you can get. Don't buy an average one just so that you have enough moeny to buy an average AMP as well. The hand is trained mainly on the guitar and therefore it should be of the highest mark. At the beginning you can also succesfully practise with an unplugged gutiar.
From the beginning you should try to encourage other people to play together. Doesn't matter if it's a drummer, bass player or even an accordionist. Common playing really teaches a lot.
Record your ideas. After some time they could be used as beginnings or parts of your songs. Another thing is that listening to yourself creates a rather obcjective opinion about your own records, and your playing.
If you have a quite good guitar player in your neighbourhood, ask him to help you. Remember, it's very hard to unteach yourself the habits you gain while learnin on your own. Another good thing about the lessons is that you won't knock to already open door. There is no point in trying to find some truths that has already been found - it's just a waste of time...
Try to learn to play the piano if possible. The familliarity with keyboard (as a 'theoretical' instrument) improves a lot. It's good to play on drums as well. Remember that rhytm is base part of music.
Once you're ceovered up with all sorts of cables, picks, wah-wahs, effects, processors, AMPs, try to hook the guitar only with the cable to the AMP, you'll see an interesting thing that'll give you a puzzle...
Once you reach a certain level, don't try to be only a guitar player, try to be a musician. Train your ear for music, reading the notes, learn the rules of composition and arrangement, harmony, the history of music, conducting, record, listen to a variety of music (CDs, live), play with the band. Study the realization of sound, compose, play different instruments, do everything you can to make your knowledge of music as wide as it can be.
